To effectively protect the stored grains, the Compagnie Générale des Insecticides developed in 1966 a revolutionary process: « cold fogging ». Regularly improved since then, this process involves coating the grain in motion with an extremely fine mist ensuring a homogeneous distribution of the insecticide.
The nebulization is carried out thanks to simultaneous injections of compressed air and insecticide inside the nozzles specially designed for this process. The formulations are thus dispersed in particulate matter of 2 to 20 microns, according to the air pressure and the throughput required.
The nozzles are put in specific places according to the handling methods used.

Three factors may explain the presence of insects in stored grain: their intrusion into harvesting material, the supply of an infested batch from another stock, or the contamination of the storage room itself. In the latter case, 2 preventive treatments are necessary and are of a minimal cost compared to the risk incurred.
Floors, walls and supports nearby: all surfaces that may come into contact with stored grain may be a source of infestation and must be treated with a pre-press or maintained agricultural sprayer. The insecticide thus applied will be active for several months.
In addition to the surface treatment, it is also possible to proceed with the volume treatment that makes it possible to reach the very high parts. Its effectiveness will be all the greater as the local will have the capacity to hold the insecticide in the atmosphere for a sufficient time to act, the necessary contact time may vary from 1 to 6 hours depending on the thiness of the fog and the temperature. The equipment used must generate a spectrum of very fine dry or liquid particles in order to reach the furthest parts of the generator and keep them suspended in the atmosphere as long as possible.
Rather than using a thermal fogger that generates ultra-fine particles (0.3 to 1 micron) but alters the active ingredients by the heat released during the injection on the exhaust of an internal combustion engine, SOJAM recommends the use of a cold atomizer, electric or thermal motor. In this case, the active ingredients are preserved even if the particles are larger (between 9 and 30 microns). And the turbocharger units can reach much higher heights (up to 30 m), which is an additional guarantee of efficiency.

Despite the use of modern techniques of storage and plant protection products, grouping crops creates an artificial ecological system particularly vulnerable to insect attack.
Weevils, sawtoothed grain beetles, brown and red floor beetles, lesser grain borers and dry fruit beetles, cereals alucites, flour moth, flour ciron … their presence, even minimal, can quickly depreciate an entire stock.
Revealed generally too late, during a movement of goods for example, the presence of insects constitutes the « potential pest danger » that can evolve into a massive infestation depending on the storage conditions.
Since negligence in health leads to significant qualitative and quantitative losses (around 25% minimum), the insecticidal protection of stored grains is therefore an unavoidable economic necessity, hence the benefits of the effective PIRIGRAIN solutions.
